Chulalongkorn University Graduate Scholarship to Commemorate the 72nd Anniversary of His Majesty the King Bhumibol Adulyadej for Academic Year 2009

1.Background and Objectives

 

The Graduate School, Chulalongkorn University has founded a Scholarship for graduate students since academic year 2000 in order to support students with high knowledge and skill and to commemorate 72nd His Majesty’s the King Bhumibol Adulyadej in 2000. Nowadays, 284 students receive this scholarship: 111 are Ph.D. students and 173 are Master’s students. The Graduate School improves scholarship management system and applies it with students enrolling in the academic year 2006 and so on. The aim of this scholarship is to encourage program to admit students with high knowledge and skill through special admission and to organize continuous monitoring and evaluating system. Qualifications of Applicants

  2.1

Must be fresh Ph.D. or Master’s students or students who change degree level from Master’s to Ph.D. with GPAX not less than 3.75 or students who have been granted the Commemorate 72nd His Majesty’s the King Bhumibol Adulyadej in the Master’s degree and have been approved to change degree level from Master’s to Ph.D. with GPAX not less than 3.75.

  2.2

Must fulfill all the qualifications according to the attachment of graduate admission announcement for students with high knowledge and skill through special admission and have been accepted by the program.

  2.3 Study in the thesis option program.
  2.4 Not a recipient of other scholarships.
  2.5 Not a recipient of Teaching Assistant Fellowship from the faculty or the Graduate School.

Documentation for the Application

  3.1 Completed application form.
  3.2 Bachelor’s /Master’s transcript.
  3.3

Two recommendation letters from previous institution: one from the advisor and another from the head of the department.

  3.4

A 1-inch photo.

  3.5 English proficiency result: CU-TEP or TOEFL or IELTS which passes the criteria stipulated by the program.
  3.6 Bor 21 form (List of successful candidates for graduate studies at Chulalongkorn University).

Qualifications of Scholarship Recipients

  4.1 Must fulfill all the qualifications stated in section 2
  4.2 The Graduate School considers that they are appropriate scholarship recipients.

5

Financial Value and Durations of Scholarship

  5.1 Ph.D. students (for the Bachelor’s graduate entry) have been granted 5-year scholarship
    (1) Real tuition fee
    (2) Material and supplies cost: 7,500 baht per semester
    (3) Wage: 8,000 baht per month (a period of 12 months from June to May)
  5.2 Ph.D. students (for the Master’s graduate entry) have been granted 3-year scholarship
    (1) Real tuition fee
    (2) Material and supplies cost: 7,500 baht per semester
    (3) Wage: 8,000 baht per month (a period of 12 months from June to May)
  5.3

Ph.D. students (for the students who change degree level from Master’s to Ph.D.) have been granted 3-year scholarship

    (1) Real tuition fee
    (2) Material and supplies cost: 7,500 baht per semester
    (3) Wage: 8,000 baht per month (a period of 12 months from June to May)
  5.4 Master’s students have been paid two installments per year
    (1) Real tuition fee
    (2) Wage: 6,000 baht per month (a period of 12 months from June to May)

Process of Selection

  6.1 The Graduate School will consider only the scholarship applicants who have been accepted into the program by the faculty through special admission and nominated as scholarship recipients by the program.
  6.2 The faculty can submit the list of scholarship applicants to the Graduate School for consideration according to the following timetable: for those who intend to enroll in the first semester, submit the list within March 5, 2009 and for those who intend to enroll in the second semester, submit the list within September 2, 2009.
  6.3 The Graduate School is entitled to select the scholarship recipients.
  6.4 The Graduate School will select and announce the scholarship recipients for the first semester in May 2009 and for the second semester in September 2009.

Conditions of Scholarship

  7.1 The scholarship recipients must be a full-time students throughout the time of scholarship support according to section 56 (1) of Chulalongkorn University Regulations on Graduate Studies, B.E. 2551.
  7.2 Their advisor must approve results of the study/research in order to report to the Graduate School at the end of every semester.
  7.3 When graduated, the scholarship recipients must submit their work in PDF file. The details are as followed:
    (1)

Thesis’s abstract, approved page and acknowledgement

    (2) Published full paper
      (2.1)

Paper published in the international academic journal: for Ph.D. graduates in Sciences and Social Sciences and Humanities or Master’s graduates in Sciences.

      (2.2)

Paper published in the journal/publication in the academic conference internationally or nationally with the reviewer: for the Master’s graduates in Social Sciences and Humanities.

    (3)

The scholarship recipients must specify that they receive this scholarship in the acknowledgement of their thesis.

Termination of Scholarship – the Graduate School will terminate the scholarship when:

  8.1 The scholarship recipients fall out of student status.
  8.2 The scholarship recipients have GPAX of less than 3.50 for two consecutive semesters.
  8.3

The scholarship recipients have made no progress on thesis. The scholarship will be terminated immediately since the semester that they get a “U”.

  8.4 The scholarship recipient resigns or takes academic leave without just cause.
  8,5 The scholarship recipient exhibits inappropriate behavior.
  8.6 The Graduate School considers, as it deems appropriate, to terminate the scholarship.

Application Submission Period

  9.1 Students who intend to enter program in the first semester of academic year 2009 can request and submit the scholarship application form from now on until February 24, 2009.
  9.2

Students who intend to enter program in the second semester of academic year 2009 can request and submit the scholarship application form from June 1 until August 27, 2009.
